Sikkim is a diversified state much due to its location and elevation on the Himalayan folds. Climate and vegetation ranges from subtropical to high alpine with an area of approximately 7,300 square kilometers. The elevation ranges from 310 meters to over 8540 meters. Mount Khanchendzonga the third highest peak after Mount Everest and K 2 can be viewed from Sikkim. Mount kanchenjongha is revered by the as their protective deity. Sikkim owing to its reputation of peace, scenic beauty and diversity is popular among tourist. The state has verdant valleys, terraced hills, fast flowing rivers and lush forest, Orchids, vivid flowers, birds, butterflies, colorful monasteries, snow peak mountain, glaciers, high altitude lakes like the Tsomgo Lake, Gurudongmar and Khecheopalri along with few hot springs. Sikkim is connected by road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siliguri. Pelling, Ravangla, Namchi and other tourist destinations are linked up with these towns.

East Sikkim is one of the four districts of Sikkim and is the most developed of the four districts as the capital of Sikkim is Gangtok situated in this district. It is the financial and tourism hub of Sikkim. East Sikkim has an added advantage of being the only place from where North Sikkim is easily assessable. Places like Chungthang, Lachen, Lachung, Phodong etc are all few hours drive from Gangtok. Sikkim is situated in an ecological hotspot and have more than fifty percent of the state covered with wildlife and rare flora, fauna of the lower Himalayas. Orchids, butterflies are the two major attractions of the state.
East Sikkim has the largest population of the state and has shopping malls, restaurant, etc. When in Sikkim try to taste the local dishes like Momos and Thukpas. Gangtok, Rangpo, Rhenock and Majitar are the four major towns and are the economical hub of the region. Rests of the tourist spot in Sikkim are all assessable from this district.

The potential of the district is huge hence government are stressing on the infrastructure development for tourism activities to improve.

West Sikkim is a remote area but has developed fast in the last 10 years. Yuksom was the capital of Sikkim and then it shifted to Gangtok. Pelling or Pemayangtse is the tourist hub in the West district. Its vicinity is blessed with numerous waterfalls, trek
routes, soothing atmosphere, wild life and few of the nice monastery and historical places of importance for all guest. Pelling is situated at an altitude of 6800 feet. Pelling or Yuksom offers spectacular close up views of Mount Khanchendzonga and the other Himalayan peaks is the major attraction of this location. A full day guided sightseeing of Pelling town including Rock garden, Kecheopalri Lake, Kanchendzonga falls and Changey waterfalls, Pemayangtse monastery, Sing shore Bridge and much more. One of the major attraction of this district is the Kanchendzonga National Park spread over an area of 800 square kilometers is one of the most beautiful and spectacular Park in India. There are many glaciers amongst them the Zemu Glacier is the longest and is the most awesome among the lot.

just above Damthang, overlooking the South District Headquarter of Sikkim is the town Namtse. There is a small flat stretch of land situated at an elevation of 8530 feet. The place is surrounded by lush green ancient forest which is popularly known as the
Tendong Hill. In pre historic age historically, this has been a place of recluse for Buddhist Lamas who spend years in meditation amidst the silent scenic grandeur. View or the beauty from the top of the Tendong Hill is something to be cherished and enjoyed as it spans across plains of Bengal to the majestic heights of the Himalayan Ranges. This is one of the places from where the five peaks of Himalayan Range like mount Narshing, mount Pandim, mount Simvo, mount Kabru and mount Siniolchu can be beautifully viewed. This district is the least explored but has the highest potential.
